Boston Over 60’s B 87 (12) Dunholme Over 60’s 59 (2)
Final match of the season saw us up against a Dunholme team that needed just two points from the game to finish top above Grantham. Well, we certainly gave them a run for their money. Unfortunately, Trevor Coulson was unable to play at the last minute, but Ronnie Walden answered the call and stepped in to lead on Alan Batchelor’s rink and ably assisted by John Millership and Keith Wilson they won 22 – 16. Joe Mellon stepped into to skip in place of Richard Keeling, who was unavailable, and together with Ronnie Moore, Mel Maddison and Steve Wilkinson romped to a 31 – 4 victory.
Keith Nix’s rink comprising Cliff Collin, Anthony Tabor and Pete Sharman were never behind and built up a 20 – 5 lead before letting their guard slip a little in the second half but still won 24 – 15.
Unfortunately for Grantham we were unable to make a clean sweep with John Stray, Ken Bainbridge, Mick Rate and skip Neil Harrison coming up against a strong rink to go down 24 – 10.
Thank you to all the players for your support throughout the season, which I thoroughly enjoyed as your captain for the first time. We look forward to 2026/27 season.
Boston Over 60’s A 104 (2 Rink wins) v Boston Over 60’s B 102 (3 rink wins)
A great morning was enjoyed by all at Boston Indoor Bowls Club on Thursday morning when the Over 60’s B took on took on the Over 60’s A team in a Challenge match of 5 rinks of four. Play was competitive throughout but played in a great spirit with the A team just clinching the aggregate by two shots (however the B team won 3 – 2 on rinks) and it all went down to the last bowl of the day. Rather than write a boring report I have done a series of pictures showing how it was nip and took throughout. Afterwards the players sat down to enjoy a superb Steak Pie Lunch with Treacle Sponge pudding and custard for dessert. Thanks to all who have played during the season.
Boston Over 60’s B v Grantham
The B team shared the rink wins with Grantham but lost the aggregate 79 – 72. Once again Richard Keeling, ably supported by Ron Moore, Roger Billingsley and Steve Wilkinson skipped the top rink with a 23 – 10 victory. Alan Batchelor’s rink with Anthony Tabor, John Millership and Keith Wilson also put on a good show to win 22 – 16. John Stray, Ken Bainbridge and Pete Sharman with debutant skip Joe Mellon came up again a strong rink with Grantham skip Mark Eurich on top form and although leading by one at the 12th end then got stuck on 13 and conceded two 5’s in the second half to lose 28 – 18. Ron Walden, Cliff Collin, Mick Rate and Keith Nix struggled from the 4th end onwards and lost 25 – 9.
The 10 points collected by Grantham puts then on the top of the league by one point but they have now finished their games whilst second place Dunholme have one game left at Boston B! We will do our best for you Grantham!
Special mention for the kitchen staff who served up a superb lunch of Chicken Hotpot followed by Apple Pie and Custard – it was great to see all players from both teams sitting down together to enjoy the meal.
Lincoln Over 60’s C v Boston Over 60’s B
Our over 60’s B travelled to Lincoln with thoughts of our first double of the season but after the first end quickly realized we were going to have a battle on our hand due to a lightning quick, recently stretched, carpet that took a few ends to adjust to. Sadly, we crumbled to an 89 (11) – 64 (3) defeat however we did not go down without a fight. Richard Keeling with an all Parthians rink of Ron Moore, Steve Wilkinson and Keith Nix were neck and neck throughout but pulled ahead 18 – 14 before dropping a 1 then 2 to claim an 18 – 17 victory. Neil Harrison with John Stray, Ken Bainbridge and Pete Sharman also enjoyed a close encounter but four pointless ends saw them 22 – 15 down however a superb 5 followed by 1 and 1 saw them snatch a tie.
Alan Batchelor with Anthony Tabor, Roger Billingsley and Keith Wilson were leading 15 – 9 at 11 ends but only scored two singles in the last 8 ends to lose 23 – 17.
For Bill Exton’s rink with lead Ron Walden, Cliff Collin and Colin Louth it was unfortunately a case of “after the Lord Mayor’s Show” from a great victory last time out the wheels came off, and they were never in it and crashed to a 27 – 7 defeat.

This was the last game of the season and Boston really played well and won 12 points to 2. The loosing rink only going downh by one shot. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and the team. Trudy Bates end of season meal is on Wednesday 22nd April 12pm. Would be good to see you all.

Men’s B vs Stamford B (AWAY)
Saturday 14 March 2026
3 winning rinks plus the aggregate (83-62), final score 12-2
Brilliant result, the best of the season - well done! That makes up for the 2-12 scoreline when they came to us in January.
Best winning rink went to Martin T, supported by Steve B, Nick F and Keith Nix, who had control of the game from early on, running out winners by 27-8
Ian C’s rink (with Cliff C, Scot Gray and Mick H) won 19-14 and mostly led in the game, but the margin was small at times.
Andrew R’s (with Karl P, Clive N and Nick W) won 24-22 on tricky rink 5, the lead swapping sides constantly as both teams tried to establish a foothold in the game
Pino’s rink (Mick E, John M and Derek S) kept their game close in losing 13-18.
Many thanks to all to travelled to Stamford to play, including those who stood in at the last minute and, not least, Martin, Andy and Ian for again skipping rinks and helping the squad to move forward.
Next game is against Skegness away on Saturday 28th March. Team sheet is up, please tick by Friday 20th if possible.
OVER 60'S A V LINCOLN A AWAY
THURSDAY 12TH MARCH
ponts 2-12 to Lincolnn 82-55 to Lincoln, very good bowling. I Middlemast rink won 20-13, paul flatters rink 10-1 down at 5 ends but theyn won 12 ends to lincolns 7 and only lost by 3 shots. Jim Gott lost 23-17. Ians rink were up against very strong rink going down to 28-4. They could not hold the shots when getting them there.
Boston Over 60’s B v Lincoln Over 60’s B
The morning started off rather disorganised due to an accident at Swineshead Bridge causing most of the Lincoln team to be held up. Then we received a message to say Colin Louth had also had to make a long detour due to same incident. However, at 9.55 we were about ready to start albeit with Lincoln one short due to a player breaking down and having to abort his journey but then we realized Ken Bainbriidge was missing however Ken walked in with moment to spare to announce he had overslept!
So, finally, the game gets under way with Alan Batchelor’s four play Mick Stray’s three – predictably Alan won 49 – 6 which included a Hotshot of 8. Not the sort of game that anyone particularly enjoys but the Lincoln lads gave it a go and never gave up.
Strange things were happening elsewhere - on Rink 3 Bill Exton (skip) Ron Walden John Millership and Colin Louth shot into a 24 – 0 lead while on Rink 6 Keith Nix (skip), Cliff Collin, Roger Billingsley and Mick Rate were down 20 – 0! Bill and his merry men went on to win 38 – 8 while on rink 6 after being 31 – 4 at 16 ends Keith’s men finally found some rhythm to lose 32 – 15.
Meanwhile on Rink 4 Neil Harrison (skip), John Stray, Ken Bainbridge and Pete Sharman were 12 – 5 down but then allowed Lincoln one shot to get them on 13. This signaled a comeback and the home rink then scored two successive 5’s on ends 13 and 14 to take the lead after which they never looked back and won 22 – 17.
So, a 12 – 2 home win which an aggregate score of 124 – 63 to gain some revenge for the pounding Lincoln had given us away. Next game 28th March away at Lincoln C.

WELL DONE BOSTON
Men’s B vs Dunholme (HOME)
Saturday 28 February 2026
2 winning rinks plus the aggregate, final score 10-4
Two weeks running and two very good results for our Men’s B squad, this time against a team riding high in this division.
The star rink was skipped by Keith N, playing with Karl P, Harry A and Nick W, who built on a good start to run out winners 33-14.
Graham S, this time with Scot G, Alan R and Clive N, were always ahead in their game and gradually built their winning advantage of 19-10.
The rink of Pino V, skipping a trio of Freiston bowlers, Mike E, John M and John S, were in charge and comfortable for two thirds of their game, building a lead of 15-7, then Dunholme grabbed control to leave the final score 15-19.
The fourth rink (Mike C, Rob D, Mel M and Mick R) had a tight game for eleven ends at 6-7, but Dunholme then dominated to win, the final score 8-19
Well bowled Harry, who came in to bowl for the first time this season, and thanks to everyone else who bowled this afternoon, particularly the last-minute subs, Mike C and Mel M.
Next match is away at Stamford on 14th March, so look out for the team sheet.
Men’s B vs Sleaford (HOME)
Saturday 21 February 2026
2 winning rinks plus the aggregate, final score 10-4
A very satisfying result and a good all-round team effort.
Best winning rink was skipped by Ian C (with Cliff C, Nick F and Mick H in support), who made a great start in building a 21-4 advantage after 11 ends, eventually winning 30-15.
Derek S’s rink (Steve B, Rob D and Mike C) held a narrow lead throughout, mostly, and ran out winners by 16-14 at the end.
Martin T (with Jason W, Alan R and Graham S) had control of the game as they went 14-10 ahead, then lost the final four ends to leave the score 14-19 as Sleaford found their form.
Karl P, Colin L, Nick W and Andy R started slowly to trail 2-13, but recovered strongly to grab the lead at 19-18, then lost the last three ends to leave the score 19-27
Well done and many thanks to all the Boston bowlers who played in this match, and particularly to Martin and Andy who came into the playing squad and did much to encourage and inspire our performance on the day.
The next game is against Dunholme at home on 28th February where we’ll hope to reverse the result of the match we had there before Christmas.

Sleaford Over 60’s v Boston Over 60’s B
Another defeat on the road for the Over 60’s B this time by a score of 10 – 4 (Aggregate 89 – 64). Once again it took us a while to get the feel of the blue baize and after 8 ends we were down 50 – 16 we did however pick up after that to get to with 6 shots of Sleaford close to the end.
Top rink was Anthony Tabor, Mel Maddison, Steve Wilkinson and Richard Keeling who won 15 – 13 followed by Keith Nix’s rink who dropped a 7 on their last end but still won by one!
Alan Batchelor’s rink lost 27 – 18 after being 16 – 4 down at 8 ends and Mick Rate lost 31 – 12 pulling back from 20 – 2 down at 8 ends.
Next match is at home to Lincoln C on 12th February - Captain Pete Sharman is feeling the pressure so is leaving himself out of the team for next time as he thinks he needs a holiday
Men’s B vs Stamford B (HOME)
Sunday 18 January 2026
1 winning rink, 3 losing rinks, final score 2-12
Another competitive match and we were unlucky not to score more than 2 points overall.
Congratulations to Graham’s rink (Cliff C, Scot G, Mick H and Graham S) who dominated their game to run out 35-9 winners.
Two rinks had close games and only lost by 2 shots at the end. Derek S (playing with Steve B, Rob D and Mick R) went into the last end one shot down and played a blinder, only to lose the end by one, and the game by two, when Stamford’s skip fired and got lucky. Final score, 20-22.
Ian C, with Mick W, Nick F and Pino, built 7-0 and 15-8 leads and were 22-22 going into the last end, which was lost, so the score ended 22-24.
Keith N, with Jason W, Alan P and Mel M, struggled against a good Stamford rink and lost 7-43.
Thank you to all Boston’s bowlers. Our next game is against Sleaford at home on Saturday 21st February. Look out for the next team sheet.

A very disappointing result for the B team on the blue carpet at Lincoln going down on all rinks and losing the aggregate 127 – 44. Never looked in it from start to finish. Even the Red Arrows display over Waddington on the way to Lincoln could not inspire us.
Mid term school report – need to do better!!

Men’s B vs Dunholme (AWAY)
Saturday 20 December 2025
1 drawn rink, 3 losing rinks, final score 1-13
A competitive match played in a friendly pre-Christmas atmosphere. The final score was disappointing, given that we had been holding our own for much of the match.
Graham’s rink (Cliff C, Nick F, Mel M, and Graham S) started well but, ultimately, theirs was a close game and they were able to claim a worthy 19-19 draw by winning the last end.
Derek’s rink (Steve B, Pino, Mick R and Derek S) had control of their game up to being 15-8 and were bowling well, but the opposition then found their form over the final ends, scoring two 4’s and a 5, to win 22-16 for Dunholme
Mike C, Alan R, Bill E and Keith N were looking good at 15-3, helped by scoring a seven, then struggled to 16-26, before finishing with two fours to end 24-26 in a topsy-turvy game
Mark B’s rink (Jason W, Alan P, Clive N and Mark B) fought back from 1-8 to almost achieve parity at 8-9, but the opposition were just too strong, the final score 10-17
Many thanks to all Boston’s bowlers who made the trip to Dunholme in somewhat foggy conditions and so close to Christmas, trying their hardest to get a better result. Have a good break over the festive period and we’ll be back fighting in the New Year

Lincoln turned up with a very strong team. Hoping to take all 14 points. Boston mamged to win on 2 rinks on the last 4 ends of the game. B Pell skipping a rink scoring 8 shots to nil on the last 4 ends winning 19-18. Sue Hoyles skipping her rink did exactly the same winning 15-13. Therefore claiming the winning rink. Well done ladies. Thank you to all the substitutes for helping out.
Next game January 15th at home.
Men’s B vs Sleaford (AWAY)
Saturday 13 December 2025
1 win, 1 draw and 2 losing rinks
A competitive match across all four rinks.
The winning rink (Steve B, Rob D, Mick R and Derek S) started one man down but were managed to be 8-0 up when back to full strength. They continued to prosper and went 14-1 ahead before Sleaford started to peg them back, but they held on to win 21-18.
Mike R, Nick W, Mel M and Graham S built an 18-11 advantage against Trevor Bannister and Pete Tyler, et al, but were caught by the end to leave the score 19-19.
Mike C, Alan R, Bill E and Keith N lost 15-26, but crucially they dropped a 5 and a 7 on the way, without which the score would have been very close.
The game on Nick F, Colin L, Clive N and Mark B’s rink was closely contested at 13-12 before Sleaford took control, the final score being 16-26.
Thank you to all the bowlers who played on Saturday, particularly those who were able to stand in at short notice.

The over 60’s B had a trip to not so sunny Skeggy and despite the Captain offering Fish n Chips all round for a win on all rinks sadly on the wrong end of a big defeat and they all had to go home hungry! Keith Nix was again top skip aided by Ron Moore, Steve Wilkinson and Mel Maddison and led for most of the match but dropped three on the last end to tie 19 all. Alan Batchelor with Trev Coulson, Graham Taylor and Keith Wilson was one up going into the last end but dropped three to lose 21 – 19.
Anthony Tabor, Colin Louth, Cliff Collin with skip Mick Rate were chasing the match throughout but picked up 11 shots in the last five ends to go down 21 – 14. Captain Pete Sharman with Ron Walden, nonagenarian Ken Bainbridge and skip Neil Harrison were 8 – 1 at eight ends then pulled back to 8 all before dropping 5, 1 and 4 and finally lost 20 – 12.

Boston Over 60’s B 90 (10) v Sleaford Over 60’s 71 (4)

Keith ably supported by Ken Bainbridge, John Millership and Mel Maddison stormed into a 21 – 4 lead at 10 ends and finally secured a 35 – 14 win. Alan Batchelor with Anthony Tabor, Graham Taylor and Keith Wilson also shot into an early commanding lead 12 – at 6 ends but then the wheels came off conceding a six and a five before losing by just 2 shots. Mick Rate, Trev Coulson, Roger Billingsley and Cliff Collin had a fine 20 – 16 win over Tony Stanley’s rink and Richard Keeling, Ron Moore, Alan Pitchard and Steve Wilkinson lost 19 – 15 after failing to score on the last seven ends. After being treated to a free air display by the Red Arrows on their way to Dunholme the B team started slowly and after nine ends were 23 shots down overall with three rinks down and Mick Rate’s level at 9 all. Then a great fight back saw them lead by 6 shots after 17 ends with Neil Harrison’s rink pulling back from 17-8 down to lead 18-17 then the wheels fell off again with Neil’s rinks dropping a 1 and 6, to lose 21 -24, Keith Nix dropped 1, 2, 1 losing 17 – 21 and Richard Keeling dropped 1, 1 and 4 on last three ends.
